MISSION

We are an education and action-oriented movement that builds itself on the autonomous and collective strength of working class and marginalized communities.

We work to identify the connections between issues that affect all oppressed people, we develop strategic and tactical educational material, promote leadership, build alternative spaces and encourage and increase community participation and ownership.

We increase community power by confronting the critical issues of our time through social and political analysis.

PRINCIPLES

Raising Consciousness: We aim to create an understanding of our privilege/place/race/class/gender/occupation/historical background and the relationship of identity to the rest of society and the power structure in order to maintain humility and be self critical and draw upon the strengths of others.

Finding Commonality: We are composed of people of varied backgrounds that come together to find commonality. We banish the labels (health care provider, artist, educator). We want to create inclusive conversations not align with one political dominant ideology.

Being Grounded: We allow our members to “check” each other to be made aware of our bias.

Respect: Respecting all peoples, inclusions, ideas, beliefs

Safe Space: We want to create a safe space where those who are not participating develop their voice.

Listening: Those who often participate will practice listening. We want to open to the ideas of others so that the organization can grow and change.

Collaborations: We want to develop collaborations with other organizations/groups that share our values and that have community members at heart.
