Stroger Hospital Patients, Community, and Employees Rally against Discriminatory Cuts. November 4, 2009.

Our health care system is under attack!

Our hospitals and clinics which serve over 80% poor, black, latino and immigrant people are being dismantled and if we don’t fight back against these attacks, it will remain only the skeleton of it’s former self. Already over 300 nurses, doctors and medical staff received layoff notices and there are more to come! Every attack on our health care workers, hospitals and clinics is an attack on us, the patients and community!

We cannot remain silent! We have got to fight back!

THESE ARE THE PROPOSED CUTS:

l.Eliminate all of inpatient care at Provident Hospital!

2.Eliminate all of inpatient care at Oak Forest Hospital!

3.Close more ACHN clinics and turn others like Robbins Community Clinic and Cottage Grove into Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s)!

4.Charge $10 co-pays for every clinic visit!

5.900 unfilled positions are already eliminated!

6.500 more lay-offs still to come!

All areas of Chicago will be affected as our system is dismantled. However on the Southside, where a “health care desert” already exists, these changes will be murderous.

When FQHC’s and other “private partnerships” begin to charge and ask for documentation, this will force many of our undocumented brothers and sisters into the streets and is equally murderous. This is what this “strategic plan” means. We have got to organize and build a movement against these racist cuts!
